Roses Down Under traces the journey of roses from the Northern Hemisphere to Australia and New Zealand where there are no indigenous roses. Dawn Eagle, after many years of research, has come to her own conclusions about how roses travelled to each country and who brought them there.
The book goes on to outline the complexities of hybridising new varieties of roses, and has a comprehensive list of hybridisers in both countries from the earliest days to the present time.
There are two rose gardens highlighted, the Victoria State Rose Garden at Werribee, Australia, and the Trevor Griffiths Rose Garden at Timaru, New Zealand.
The final chapter takes a whimsical look at the future of roses.
The book is fully illustrated with many colour photographs the majority of which were taken by the author.
